Sandhurst Group Practice is a ten partner practice working from 2 purpose built surgeries, Owlsmoor, completed in 1983 and Sandhurst, completed in 1999. We have been a training practice since 1976. There are 3 trainers, Roger Halliwell (trainer since1992) and Colleen Pidgeon (trainer since 2001) at Sandhurst; and Anita Vakil (trainer since 2004) at Owlsmoor.
The surgeries are well equipped, and we do our own minor surgery, cryotherapy and IUCDs. We have diagnostic ultrasound and a fully equipped ENT suite used by our GP'sI. We have a sports injury clinic and sports injury physiotherapy. We offer an enhanced service for diabetics which includes insulin initiation.
We have a full complement of staff, including a Practice Nursing Team, and attached staff (midwives, district nurses and health visitors), who work from the practice premises, as well as other ancillary staff, such as a counsellor, podiatrist, phlebotomist, dietitian and speech therapist. Patient records are paperless (using EMIS) and results come electronically from the laboratory.
The population is fairly middle class, with a few small pockets of less affluence. There is a good spread of ages from young people, through families and children, the middle aged and the very elderly.
Each registrar has his/her own room, with a PC with internet access. There is a comprehensive library at each surgery
