Stephanie Heywood is the trainer at Mayfield Medical Centre in Farnborough, Hampshire. The spacious premises were purpose-build in 2003. At present there are 5 GP partners. Christine Marshall, one of the partners, is a Programme Director for the Frimley VTS.
We have a full complement of attached staff including district nurses, health visitors and a midwife. There is in-house counselling and clinics are held by a visiting dietician and a Smoking Cessation Advisor. The practice is fully computerised [Vision].
The practice area is suburban, compact and covers a mix of private and social housing. The list size is 8800 and still growing. The population is predominantly young but we do have some nursing home patients. There are a large number of Nepalese patients, mainly ex-Gurkhas and their families.
There is a consulting room for the exclusive use of the GP registrar with a PC with internet access and a good range of reference books. All members of the practice team are keen to support GP training and other partners have entered the pathway to become GP trainers. We are situated close to Frimley Park Hospital where there is an excellent postgraduate centre and where the VTS course is held.
