Learning Sets

Learning sets are small groups of individuals who support each other in learning and development in areas where they share educational goals. We would like to support the development of learning sets within the larger training group and, in particular, we would like to encourage development of links across the "year cohorts". The Learning Sets are determined geographically by the location of your Educational Supervisor's Practice. We try and include at least 2 from each year cohort in each learning set. We would like to encourage the trainees within these groups to try an get to know each other and cross the "year boundaries" - in particular to offer ideas and guidance to those following in your footsteps

Eastern Group                  FGMC, AVHC, Heatherside

Camberley Group            Camberley HC, Park Road, Gordon Road & Lightwater

Farnborough Group         Giffard Drive, Milestone, Mayfield,  Salisbury Road

Northern Group                Hartley Corner, Yateley, Owlsmoor, Sandhurst

South-Western Group       Fleet, Downing Street, Farnham HC, Alexandra Surgery

Military Group 1                TBC

Thursday Lunch Presentations

At the start of each VTS meeting at Frimley Park Hospital, we ask the ST3s to take the lead with a clinical presentation - usually based around a case. We would really encourage you to involve the ST1s and ST2s in your learning set wherever possible. If the VTS is not meeting at FPH on the date that you have been allocated, then you have got away with it!

Content of Presentations:

The time-slot is 30 minutes - 15mins of presentation, 15 mins discussion

The presentation should involve at least one hospital-based and one practice-based trainee

It may be case-presentation(s), audit, critical incident, EBM etc

It should be directly relevant to the Curriculum chapter that has been designated (ie read that chapter!)

It should preferably be about a condition / issue that is relevant in both primary & secondary care

It is also intended to provide you with involvement in teaching (Curriculum section 3.7)

The presentors should produce a part-completed log-book entry that others at the meeting can then customise and enter on their own portfolio
